Ruth Hatfield

RUTH Hatfield is a writer and ex-archaeologist from Cambridge, UK. She has been writing all her life and her first novel, a middle-grade fantasy called The Book of Storms, was published by Hot Key books in 2014. It was followed by two more books in the same series, The Colour of Darkness and The Book of Shadows. Ruth has also written several books for OUP’s reading schemes covering various diverse non-fiction topics, from the history of comics to the science and mythology of the Polar Lights. She has written both non-fiction and fiction for Pearson’s Rapid Plus reading scheme and one of her unpublished fiction manuscripts was shortlisted for the 2024 Wells Festival of Literature’s Children’s Writing prize. Her most recent book, Dig!, a practical look at the world of archaeology for children aged 7-11, was published by Quarto in August 2025.
