LUI Sit was born in Hong Kong, raised in Australia and lives in London. She fell in love with reading, then writing when she learned English at primary school. Branching out, she started writing plays which she performed for her classmates. Poetry replaced plays when, aged 9, she got paid $5 for her first ever publication – A Ballad of War. As an adult, she has worked in the arts, education, publishing and charity sectors, writing in secret at all these workplaces. True to form, she’s still writing in multiple genres – children’s middle grade, adult short fiction and non-fiction.
Land of the Last Wildcat was Lui’s debut novel and the first in a two-part series illustrated by David Dean and published by Macmillan Children’s Books. It was chosen as Waterstones Book of the Month and shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize. The second book in the series, Wildcat and the Gathering Storm publishes in September 2026.
